Gaenor’s paintings can be found in British Galleries and private collections in the UK and abroad.

Her mediums are oil and watercolour, with a specialism in oil painting

Why Paint with Oils?

The ethereal qualities and subtle colours are expressed to their best advantage in this medium. The intricate detail and delicate  layers of texture are very important and give a semi-abstract quality, with emphasis on glowing luminescence which changes with the time of day and quality of light.

The emotional response to the ‘Living Scapes’ and ‘Dancers’ comes equally from the subtle gradations and flickering colour as in the subject matter. The paintings are all about being in the moment and transmuting the essence of a moment to the viewer.

Working as an Artist

Gaenor prefers to paint in silence. The painting process then becomes meditative and by practicing Tai Chi she is aware that the flow of energy transmits to the painting through gestural brushstrokes.

Materials and Technique

Marks are created with all sorts of tools and brushes, including flicking paint with the fingers and sometimes spraying with solvent and tipping the canvas as part of the creative process. Successions of subtle glazes allow the painting to gradually reveals itself with light glowing through delicate translucencies and unctuous opacities.

Gaenor often works on square fine linen canvases for the sense of harmony and balance to this shape.
